Live Theater in the Portland Metro Area

Hi!! It’s been a while since you’ve heard from me, let’s get right into it.

Today I posted on my TikTok about live theater shows that you can support while we are waiting for the extremely profitable studios to get their shit together and pay workers properly via the WAG and SAG-AFTRA strikes to wrap up. #unionsareforallworkers

Getting back on track, here are several live productions that you can go support right in PDX this weekend, and one in Hillsboro.

Apparently the season for theater kicks off in the late summer/fall depending on the company you want to go see. Most of the places I looked into while researching are in show/season building mode at the moment, we should have many options once it’s sweater weather again!

We are lucky to have a lively performance art culture her in PDX, we have several different companies who put together adult and children’s theater, dance productions, comedy, and of course we are a hub for concerts in the Northwest. There are plenty of people who are covering concerts, I will be focusing on theater, dance and comedy.

First up is

RuPaul’s Drag Race Werq the World 2023 Tour

Playing at: Keller Auditorium
Price: $45.00 – $259.50
More information about the show and tickets are available here at the time of publishing the show is not sold out. One note, most of the venues here are on the smaller side, which in my experience means there are no bad seats

Second we have one more show at Portland’ 5,

THE FABBA SHOW – A TRIBUTE TO ABBA
Saturday, July 22, 2023, 8:00pm
Playing at: Newmark Theatre
Price: $44.25 – $179.00
More information about the show and tickets are available here!

Third on the docket today, the Twilight Theater is hosting the T.O.A.S.T. one-act theater festival!

Twilight One Act Summer Theater features 12 one-act productions with 12 directors! Tickets are between $18-$24 for individual shows, you can purchase a pass for all of the shows and if you purchase tickets at the door they have a $2 increase in price. Please check out the information listed here for more information, festival tickets can be found here. The theater is located at 7515 N. Brandon Ave. Portland, OR 97217.

Our fourth and final event is happening in Hillsboro at Bag & Baggage, they are premiering Red Velvet and hosting a Steampunk Parlor fundraiser for the production.

A bit about the show from Bag&Baggage:

“Theatre Royal, Covent Garden, 1833. Edmund Kean, the greatest actor of his generation, has collapsed on stage whilst playing Othello. A young black American actor has been asked to take over the role. But as the public riot in the streets over the abolition of slavery, how will the cast, critics and audience react to the revolution taking place in the theatre? Red Velvet takes us back to the most pivotal moment in Ira Aldridge’s storied career. This seering drama by Lolita Chakrabarti (Olivier Award winning playwright of Life of Pi) will leave you at the edge of your seat.

This play explores race, racism, and the concept of Black exceptionalism.

Generously sponsored by Helen & Alan Harnsberger, and Diane Ditmer.”

Tickets are $20-$35

And a bit more information about the fundraiser from Bag&Baggage:

“Join Bag&Baggage Productions for a special Steampunk Parlour Party Fundraiser! In honor of our Regional Premiere of Red Velvet we invite you to don your best 19th century steampunk garb and come on down to The Vault for food, drink, tarot readings, live portraits, a costume contest, and so much more. The evening will be hosted by Oregon’s own Historical Conjurer DR Schreiber who is sure to have a few tricks up his sleeves to keep the party going! Join us for a good time and to support your favorite local professional theatre.”

Tickets are $20-$70

You can find more information about Red Velvet here, and the Steampunk fundraiser here.

My personal picks would be to go check out T.O.A.S.T and check out Red Velvet. Will you be checking any of these out this weekend? Do you have anything coming up that you’d like to promote? Let me know in the comments below!

Living in Oregon in 2021, the Real Story

Portland local provides update on the state of the city.

Hello, hello!! I wanted to give y’all a real world view of live here in Portland Oregon after the riots that we had in 2020. First thing is first Black Lives Matter, defund the police and ACAB! Now that that’s out of the way, the riff raff have clicked off my page, lets get into it.

Life in the PNW

Life in the PNW is for the most part back to normal, well as normal as it can be now that we are living after the COVID-19 outbreak. The riots are over, more importantly the outside entities that were harassing our citizens who were exercising their right to assembly. businesses are starting to reopen downtown and the real issue we have is our lack of services for the large houseless population. I personally believe that we should provide housing to every person as it is a basic human right and we as a society have the means to do so. Lets get rid of some excess spending in the budget for pizza parties that employees don’t even like and throw it into social programs to help everyone have a fair shot.

Portland, OR

We are back to the thriving cannabis, food and craft beverage capital that we know and love. Some places have shut down due to the pandemic that keeps on keepin’ on. Due to the circumstances some people who were treasured members of our community are no longer here. They are missed. We do have mask mandates that have been in place from the summer of 2020 at least. Proof of vaccination may be required to enter some establishments of all sorts. Be sure to double check with your accommodations, restraints, merchants and venues that you are checking out if you do plan to travel to our beautiful city for the most up to date information.

Are you thinking about taking a trip over to the PNW? Let me know in the comments below!

Willow, The Escapee

Willow, just chillin’

This is Willow, I know she’s super cute right? It’s a good thing she is so cute because wow is she a naughty little kitty. Willow is a good communicator, she likes to pee on things to show that she misses us, she will pee on any rug or piece of clothing on the floor so we have to be extra diligent. One day I will be able to have a bathroom rug sadly, today is not that day. She is a runner as well, and has to have her collar on if she looks like she’s going to make a break for the door. Sometimes she gets to explore the balcony with supervision, of course.

She was with me after my Mom suddenly died and she was the perfect little companion kitty. She just wants to cuddle and sleep on the bed. She would stay with me as long as I needed her and let me hold onto her tail while I was sleeping.

She really is a good kitty, but just like all pets, she still has her own kitty issues. At the end of the day I’m glad that we get to be her forever home and have enjoyed spending the last nine years with her. She is a special little girl and I will miss her dearly when she is gone. So raise your glass, weather it hold champagne or coffee, to Willow, AKA The Bear, Willow Bear, Willow The Bear, Princess Whiskers, Princess Bear!

Sometimes I use my husbands clippers to shave my legs.

I have an olive complexion and can be a little furry, so if I haven’t shaved in more than a month, I like to do a little pretreat so to speak. It cuts down my time in the bathroom over all and it’s an Eco friendly option as you will save both water, and razors in the long run. If you have never used clippers, but have used more than one razor while shaving your legs, I highly recommend it. Let me give you a quick run down.

Before I start I like to check the clippers to be sure that they are clean and ready to go. I put them on the lowest setting, to get the closest shave possible. Then I just step into the shower and go to town. The hair can be washed down the drain or you could put something down to collect it. I just wash it down the drain because I’m lazy like that. While this will save you time, it does not give you a close shave, I usually follow it up with a once over with my manual razor. Finally be sure to clean out the clippers when you are finished.

Have you ever used your spouses clippers to trim up your legs? Let me know in the comments below!
